Exhibition Stand Builder in the Netherlands
Exhibiting in the Netherlands means working with some of Europe's best-connected venues. RAI Amsterdam sits minutes from the airport and the city centre, Rotterdam Ahoy hosts the port, logistics and energy sectors, and Jaarbeurs is within walking distance of Utrecht Central Station. The venues have something else in common: firm rules and fixed build-up schedules that decide what your stand can be before anyone draws it.

Serving brands across Europe

Exhibition stand design and build in the Netherlands
Some clients are Dutch companies taking a first stand. Others are international exhibitors flying into Schiphol for a show at the RAI. Either way, the project follows the same path:
- Understand the plot and the venue rules.
- Design around what the stand needs to achieve.
- Plan production and installation around the build-up window.
Our service portfolio includes:
- Custom exhibition stands. Designed around your plot, your products and what the space has to do, whether that is a 20 sqm plot built for meetings or a large open-sided stand built for demonstrations.
- Modular exhibition stands. Built for companies with a calendar that runs across Dutch, German and wider European shows. One system is reconfigured for each new plot and refreshed with new graphics.
- Double-decker stands. Planned from the first concept around the hall height, the organiser’s rules and the permit process for raised levels.
- Last-minute builds. For shows where the decision came late or a supplier fell through.
- Exhibition stand design from an in-house studio. Our team of 10 designers develops several concepts against your brand guidelines and floor plan, rather than presenting one option and defending it.
- Dedicated project management. One named project manager covers concept development, design iterations, production planning, installation scheduling and on-site build support.
- Production through long-standing partner suppliers. Your project manager coordinates and checks their work throughout.
- Structural specifications for multi-level stands. They cover materials, dimensions and load, and give your venue submission a solid technical reference.
- A project run in English. Your team works in English from brief to dismantling.
Exhibition stand design in the Netherlands rewards early decisions on height, levels and layout. Our job is to get those decisions made while there is still time to act on them.

What to plan for when you exhibit in the Netherlands
Most of what makes a Dutch show run smoothly is settled before design begins. These are the points worth confirming first.
Points to confirm first:
- Height limits are set by the venue and by the show. RAI Amsterdam’s stand guidelines set a maximum construction height of 275 cm for its common stand types, and any request for an exemption is submitted together with the stand design. Organisers can also add requirements of their own. The figure for your specific show therefore belongs in the brief before any design work starts.
- Raised floors and second levels need a permit. At the RAI, a stand with a storey, a stage or bleachers needs permission from 60 centimetres upwards. The RAI’s construction manual for multi-level stands asks for applications at least 6 weeks before the event for Dutch exhibitors and 8weeks for non-Dutch exhibitors, so an independent engineer and architect can assess them. That makes a double-decker a decision for an earlier first conversation.
- Build-up windows are short and scheduled. Contractor access, deliveries and dismantling all run to the organiser’s published timetable. A stand that is designed with the build sequence in mind goes up calmly. One that is not, tends to be finished under pressure.
- Each venue has its own advantages.
- RAI Amsterdam hosts international shows in water, broadcast, marine and sports.
- Rotterdam Ahoy is where port, project cargo and hydrogen businesses meet, so many stands there are built around meetings rather than products.
- Jaarbeurs Utrecht carries a strong construction and technology calendar.
- One system can cover the region. Many Dutch exhibitors also show at German venues, a short drive across the border. A modular stand that is stored between shows and reconfigured for each plot can serve Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Cologne and beyond in the same year.

What you get when you work with Design Desk
A Dutch show is a significant investment, and most of the risk sits in coordination rather than design. These are the things that reduce it.
What distinguishes our service:
- One project manager from brief to dismantling: Trade fair projects rarely fail through poor design. They fail at handovers, when the person who understood your requirements is not the person dealing with the build. Your project manager stays with the project throughout.
- Several concepts, not one: With 10 designers in the studio, you see distinct options and get iterations without extra charges. The first idea is rarely the best one.
- Structural thinking from day one: For raised or two-level stands, structural specifications are prepared once the concept is approved, so the design that goes forward for submission is one that can actually be built.
- Design built around meetings as well as display. At meeting-led shows like Breakbulk Europe, we plan the space around how many people need to sit down at once.
- On-site build support. Problems during build-up need a decision within the hour, not an email chain. Build support is provided on-site during installation.
- One contractor for multiple European shows: With more than 2,500 projects across more than 30 countries, a Dutch show can be one stop in a wider programme rather than an isolated project.

PROJECT SHOWCASE
BREAKBULK EUROPE 2026
Air Charter Services
18 sqm, Stand no. H2.4-E73
Concept Note
The stand combines a raw industrial look with the warmth of a modern lounge. Concrete-style walls, timber flooring, green turf, pallet seating and a steel drum table create visual contrast, while warm festoon lights and greenery soften the space.
The use of timber, metal and textured finishes adds depth, giving the stand a relaxed, characterful feel that suits the Breakbulk setting.

FAQs
How fast can we turnaround your project, and other common questions
How do I choose an exhibition stand builder for a show in the Netherlands?
Look at four things rather than the portfolio alone:
- Whether they can show projects similar to yours and name them.
- Whether one named project manager stays with you from brief to dismantling.
- Whether they raise height limits and raised-level permits at the first conversation.
- Whether the quotation separates the stand build from space rental, venue services and freight, so you can compare suppliers properly.
How far in advance should we appoint a stand builder?
4 to 8 months before the show. That leaves room for concept design, iterations, permit applications for raised levels, and production. For Aquatech Amsterdam in March 2027, for example, that planning window is already open.
What is the maximum stand height at RAI Amsterdam?
The RAI’s general stand guidelines give 275 cm for common stand types. Exemptions are requested together with the stand design, and individual shows can set their own limits. Always confirm the figure for your specific show and hall.
Can we build a double-decker stand in the Netherlands?
Often, yes, but it needs planning. At the RAI, any raised level from 60 cm needs permission. At IBC, for example, double-decker plans pass through a two-stage approval with the RAI’s licences desk, which can require design changes on safety grounds. We prepare structural specifications covering materials, dimensions and load to support the submission.
Do you handle the venue permit?
Permit applications for raised and multi-level stands go to the venue or organiser. We prepare the structural specifications the application relies on, and your project manager builds the organiser’s deadlines into the project schedule.
What does an exhibition stand in the Netherlands cost?
Stand build costs are quoted per square metre:
- Economy: EUR 350 to 500
- Premium Economy: EUR 500 to 700
- Business Class: EUR 700 and above
Space rental, venue services, freight and travel sit outside those figures.
Do you have a presence in the Netherlands?
Design Desk B.V. is registered in Amstelveen. Your project is run as follows:
- Design is done by our in-house studio.
- Production runs through long-standing partner suppliers.
- Build support is provided on site during installation.
- Your project manager coordinates all of it.
Can you build our stand for a show in Germany?
Yes. Many of our projects are at German venues, including Cologne, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. A modular stand can move between Dutch and German shows with new graphics each time.
What is the difference between a custom and a modular exhibition stand?
- Custom: Designed and built specifically for your brand, plot and objectives.
- Modular: Uses adaptable components that can be reconfigured for different halls and plot sizes. It suits companies exhibiting several times a year.
Our show is only a few weeks away. Can you still help?
Often, yes. Last-minute builds narrow the range of formats, usually towards modular solutions, but the standards stay the same. Send us your show date, plot size and hall, and we will tell you what is realistic.
Will someone be on site during build-up?
Yes. On-site build support is provided during installation.
What do you need from us to get started?
Send us:
- the show, venue and hall
- your plot dimensions and which sides are open
- the height limit in your organiser’s manual
- your budget range
- what the stand needs to achieve
That is enough for a first concept
